MGSU at the 4th meeting of the Belt and Road  Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC 2020)

The National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering has been a full member of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC) since 2019.

On 30 October, 2020 the fourth meeting of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC 2020) was held. The event consisted of the Presidents’ Forum and the award ceremony for the prize winners of the University Student Architectural and Structural Design Competition.

The event was held online. This year the meeting of the Consortium was hosted by the University JUNIA, France. The representatives of 26 universities from 12 countries took part in the work of the conference. MGSU was represented on the event by Vice-Rector Vera Galishnikova, who gave her own presentation.

The main topic of the Forum was creation of the professional community of education in the field of construction and architecture. The participants emphasized the need to improve training of new specialists, boost cooperation between students, teachers and scientists from different countries. Chairman of BRAUIC and President of Beijing University of Civil Engineering Zhang Ailin pointed out in his speech that maintaining close international ties is especially important in the conditions of the unfavorable epidemiological situation in the world.

During the meeting the participants discussed the results of the Consortium’s activity in 2020 and approved a new working program for 2021 which includes the development of a strategic document – the Action Plan for the next five years (until 2025).

During 2020 within the framework of the Consortium’s activities the University Student Architectural and Structural Design Competition was held. The representatives of 18 universities from 7 countries took part in the competition. For this event MGSU presented six projects made by the teams of students from the Institute of Construction and Architecture. The international jury, of which one of the members was the professor of the Department of Structural and Theoretical Mechanics Vladimir Filatov, chose three of these projects to be presented in the final part of the competition. Two of them were among the prize winners:

  • For category A: “Architectural Design”, the third place has been taken by Anastasia Berseneva, the student from the Institute of Construction and Architecture under the guidance of the lecturer from the Department of Architecture Natalya Pushkina.
  • For category B: “Bridge Design”, the third place has been taken by the team of students from the Institute of Construction and Architecture Svetlana Babiy, Vitaly Zykov, Zaurbek Gadaborshev and Valeria Maslova with their project work named «Bridge over canyons and craters on the surface of Mars for rovers and other planetary exploration techniques» under the guidance of the associate professors from the Department of Structural and Theoretical Mechanics Yuri Kolotovichev and Vladimir Smirnov.

The winners were awarded with certificates and monetary awards. Moscow State University of Civil Engineering was awarded a special certificate “For organizational achievements”.

The next meeting of the Consortium will be held in 2021 in Mostar University (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
